For those who dont know about spws, here is a brief introduction
Foundation of Students’ Patient Welfare Society was laid down in 1988 with the objective providing maximum relief to the poor patients by providing medicines and other requirements free of cost. The society comprises of medical students who have volunteered to sincerely dedicate their valuable time to the service of humanity. The society’s counter at the Outdoor of Mayo Hospital is ready to provide all sort of medical aid and advice within their limited means.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:-
• Free of cost distribution of drugs to the poor patients.
• Rehabilitation facilities for the patients of Mayo Hospital.
• To conduct medical camps for the coverage of the people of surrounding rural areas of Lahore.
• Health education.
• To improve the general hygienic conditions of Mayo Hospital.
• To develop a sense of concern and sympathy among the fellow students towards the patients

Although its a students' society and many people believe that its office should be in college premises where normally the students are present in large no but the thing is our main aim is the welfare of patients and we find all the patients in hospital premises thats y our office is also located within OPD Building, that is hospital premises.............
OUR WELFARE SECTIONS:-
There are SIX welfare sections operating in SPWS: - Medicine - Blood Donations - Patient Care - Special Children - Health Promotion - Awareness
a.MEDICINE:-
The Medicine section is responsible for proper maintenance of the medicines that are accepted as generous donations. This section operates within 5 subsets
A. DIABETIC:
The Diabetic Section provides free medicines e.g. GLUKIL, GLIO etc. every wednesday to diabetic patients with a budget of Rs 6000/month. It has 93 registered patients. Patients are also given dietary instructions and precautionary measures.
B. HYPERTENSIVE:
The Hypertensive Section distributes free medicines and drugs to the registered hypertensive patients.
C. TB:
This section distributes free medicines to the registered patients of Tuberculosis at Mayo Hospital
D. INHALERS:
Free inhalers including SALBO, BEKSON Forte, OPTRA etc are distributed to patients of Asthma on first Monday of every month with a budget of Rs. 50,000/month.
E. EPILEPSY:
An epilepsy section has been established that is still growing. Drugs given to patients include Epival,Tegrol and Phenytoin.
b.BLOOD DONATIONS SECTION:
The members of the blood donation society are assigned various duties such as redirecting the willing students from the college to the blood bank of Mayo Hospital.
The members also maintain records of the blood groups and contacts of the students of King Edward. They are contacted immediately as soon as the need arises.
c. PATIENTS’ CARE:
The patient care section allocates the members and dispatches groups to various WARDS to assist in the generalized CARE FOR THE PATIENTS and relieves the burden upon the doctors and nursing staff.
The patients left UNATTENDED are provided with an attendant to take care all the time. ATTENDED patients are provided with money and medicines free of cost.
d. FREE MEDICAL CAMPS:
Moreover we also organize different FREE MEDICAL CAMPS in the REMOTE OUTSKIRTS OF LAHORE for the poor and needy people.
In the medical camps, FREE CHECKUP FACILITIES are provided by the CAPABLE doctors of Mayo Hospital, and FREE MEDICINES are distributed with the help of pharmaceutical companies.
e. SPECIAL CHILDREN:
An EID MUSICAL SHOW is held annually hosted by Prof. Khalid Jamil, our patron at the occasion of Eid festival for the SPECIAL CHILDREN which is telecasted on different TV channels on Eid day.
Many recreational activities like cricket matches, musical shows etc. are conducted so that the SPECIAL CHILDREN DON'T FEEL THEMSELVES TO BE ABNORMAL BUT CONSIDER THEMSELVES TO BE A SPECIAL ASSET FOR US.
f. HEALTH PROMOTION:
This section holds a brilliant record of organizing HEALTH AWARENESS LECTURES, HEALTH PROMOTION SEMINARS, and LEARNING DISABILITIES TRAINING
in KEMU and other different colleges and universities for the common welfare of students of KE as well as students of other institutions.
g. AWARENESS:
The members of this section visit the various colleges and hospitals introducing SPWS and MOTIVATING PEOPLE OF OTHER INSTITUTIONS TO DO WELFARE WORK AS WE, THE KEMCOLIANS DO AT MAYO HOSPITAL.
Such visits DEVELOP UNDERSTANDING with students of other colleges, help us in donations and EXPAND THE WORKING CIRCLE of SPWS.

- Hundreds of patients are taken care by the members.
- There is active participation in blood donation section and more than 250 pints of blood are donated every year!

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS:
-For patients' facility and to save them from any unnecessary discomfort, we have established sign boards in the whole OPD guiding the patients to various rooms, labs, departments and dispensaries in the OPD.

The members of the blood donation section maintain records of the blood groups and contacts of the students of King Edward Medical University. They are contacted immediately as soon as the need arises.
-Establishment of Patient Care Section that provides FREE medicines and FINANCIAL AID to poor and needy Patients and also arranges FREE LAB TESTS for them.
OUR RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS:-
- On 30th April we organized a FREE MEDICAL CAMP in Rural Health Centre, Sharaqpur in which we were accompanied by 11 qualified doctors of Mayo Hospital. More than 500 patients were provided with free check-up facilities and free medicines. They were also given dietary instructions and precautionary measures.
- On 7th May, we organized a FREE ASTHMA CAMP in our office in Mayo Hospital in which we provided free Inhalers of cost more than Rs.15000 to more than 50 patients referred to us from the Chest and TB Ward of Mayo Hospital. Not only we gave them inhalers but we also guided them their use.
- On 16th May, we organized a FREE DIABETIC CAMP in our office in Mayo Hospital in which we provided not only free medicines to more than 100 patients but also provided them with free blood sugar level check, charts on dietary instructions and free counseling.
