Now when the workshop is over and when the summer vacations are going to start, we have to do planning about upcoming events, if someone has any project or proposal in mind, plz put it forward, we can see if its feasible........... well here are some proposals we can organise
1 or 2 medical camps in july august in narangmandi and kasur becz My cousin can help me in management in narangmandi and in kasur, we have dr. chaudhary ahmed, he promised to help us in management!!! we just to find some sponsors like MERCK sponsored us last time when we organised medical camp in sharaqpur. well chest section of GETZ people say they wont go out of Lahore. the gastroenterolgy and hepatology section of GETZ section say they would inform us later. i talked to Mr. Mukhtar Ahmed (Marketing Manager) of Shering, he said he is ready to co-operate with us and would help us in organizing medical camp but they say that they are related to only and only dermatology and gynae. I am trying to contact Merck once again but there Marketing Manager Mr. Shahzad has gone for Umrah and they cant co-ordinate without him.... i am trying to contact some other pharmaceutical companies. well lets see what happens!!!

i have another project in mind i.e the installation of water coolers all over in the college and Hospial Premises. Its really hot these days and u dont find even a single water cooler in ward time to drink water........... we are young guys but what about the poor patients! how could they manage! so i think we should try to install as much water coolers as possible in hospital and college premises both for patients' and students' welfare. now we need to do two things, first we need to make the cost estimation and secondly we should try to get permission from both VC and MS. its a difficult job becz VC did not give permission to Salman Kazmi last year for the same purpose but lets hope for the best!!!

Nadeem Butt bhai also have some proposals about which he told me. they were as following
1. Installation of TVs in hospital showing videos regarding health education for patients' education teaching them prevention is better than cure
2. Cleanliness Week in Hospital with the help of Dr. Maaz
3. Plantation Day in College and Hospital
These are his proposals, so he would himself provide the details regarding these projects. and after overviewing his project, we can decide we can do it or not and if we can do it then how to do it.
In the same way, all of us can present plans on this forum and then after making a cost estimation and feasibility report we can decide whether we would go for that plan or not.
any opinions, views or suggestions regarding my or nadeem bhai's proposals are most welcome!!! u can also present a new proposal yourself and then we can have a discussion on it!!!

today when i met Dr. Rizwan Naseer, he advised me to establish a proper blood bank of society. he told me that in 1998 there was a society SOBD i.e Society of Blood Donation. this society used to have its office in Pharmacology Dept and they used to have their own fridges, their own blood bags and they used to organise various blood donation camps in which they used to collect blood from different school and colleges. but later due to some unknown reasons, SOBD finished operating and then in about 2000-1 SPWS took the charge of blood donation but since then we dont have a proper blood bank like SOBD used to have. Moreover, no one knows where the fridges and all the other stuff of SOBD office has gone!!! if we wanna establish a proper blood bank we need to arrange these things either by buying them ourselves or by asking the college to give us the lost assets of SOBD.
P.S:- SOBD was a society with a history much more bigger than SPWS but now no one knows it. unfortunately due to some reasons, now SOBD is no more than a forgotten history.

hi every body assalam o alaikum
i feel strange and excited with all this activity at SPWS now. Well done umar, sultan, furqan and rest of team members...
umar thanks for conveying my suggestions..
the first idea about media presentation about health information was originally DR KHALID JAMIL's brainchild. In my time, i did not have guts and resources to do that (we will make sure that inshallah resources will be there this time and as much support i can manage). After talking to umar and hearing about his team i am sure they can do it inshallah.
there is a strong question about need of it. My view on this is that your job as doctor or true welfare person is not just prescription but whole health package. if we are spending 30000 Rs_ a month on anti asthmatics ... ur patients get a 400 Rs inhaler, they leave hospital and start smoking (achieving even greater taste after bronchodilatation), they go back to the place where dust ingestion/inhalation has exceeded 500grams/day then how much good you are doing in the long run(net health outcome?). There are so many things that need changing in our society and u are the leaders. we need to take on new ideas. question is that have we done anything 'extra' for our patients since 1988.its still same job since then? no evolution? people need to be educated on making a queue in hospital, try to be polite, population control and significance (controversial !), and get maximum benefit from hospital. we are not just a welfare medical store. we are cream of nation and we must be equipped with new needs of patients rather than just dispensing.
just spend 15000 of these 30000 on plantation or removing that dust and polution. here u are saving not only acute attacks of asthma but also giving some relief to a tired lung who gonna be asthmatic next month or next week after a long battle against it.
what do u think now.
actual implementation would be selected students preparing effective dialogues(ask KDS for help-job for coordination sec), short messages, real life scenes, and model examples (inshallah i will try to arrange some as well). some more videos can be obtained from PTV on special requests. these will be played initially in OPD and we will see response. if favourable then we will rapidly put some more units across in emergency building and other places. possible topics
smoking(4 videos) disadvantages cost asthma related disease associated drugs pregnancy related info asthma what is it what medications? cost prevention
dust and ways to reduce plantation how and why to adapt to queues in hospital population control anxiety control water hygience general outdoor behaviour like throwing rubbish on streets
finally it will be a good medium for funds appeal as well. and brilliant ground for grooming of people who participate in whole exercise.
and endless ideas
just remember taking a jug out of a pool does not appear to make a difference but trust me it does.

UMAR i think water coolers is an excellent idea. I am sorry but i am disappointed not to get permission. It might be due to that we are talking about hospital area where VC hasn,t got access. try doing it MS and i am sure he will appreciate this. there are not many thinks as great as providing wated to the thirsty. I think its a tremedous idea. u must do it and do it fast.

as my patients are still not showing up in clinic.. i just went over the details of the above messages.. and thought would dedicate some time here...here are some ideas... 1) there is a national bank of pakistan branch here in Canada in Toronto...which I will try to contact as well.. and then thinking that if we do have a board of trustees... than maybe we should have the board of trustees pledge a small amount to the society every month... (it will ensure sustainability..and most NGOs do that.. at a rate of 30 dollars a month.. or 1 dollar a day..!!!! but can translate into big things in pak ruppees.to sustain projects if everyone pitches in.)and i can take the first step in that..! The details of transferring the donations to spws i will let nadeem bhai and umer know over the phone..
2. ) I would rather go for medical camps, health education, water coolers than for workshop and seminars.. coz in honesty and Nadeem bhai can disagree.. it was a lot of work..and productivity at the other end was very variable..
3.) Khurram Jami and I (and I dont know if Nadeem Bhai was with us or not) did go abt asking f spws could start SOBD again..(2003) and there was actually a very logical explanation for it.. and that was ..testing the blood that was donated.. according to the new laws... there has to be a strict protocol for testing the blood that is donated esp hep c,hiv ,h epb.. and SOBD could not cough u p the funds to maintain that kind of testing..and neither could we at that stage...and with hep c and b becoming more and more endemic in pak.. so u have to be very careful..
4) one suggestion would be to associate with a more international organization like red cross... for blood donation.. they are already set up and follow with govt regulations... i know i brought this idea up before.. and it was turned down... because of risk of loss of autonmy... but seriously u just need to go the ngo database in pakistan.. and there are thousand of them,.... but most of them are difficult to sustain.. so being a satellite campus for a bigger ngo.(red cross, UN, WHO, world vision, unicef etc..). might help u in funding and sharing their resources... just an idea.. dont expect angry glares..another idea is to join forces with similar societies in the other medical colleges- FJ one is trying to revive and i can try to find from an ex president if she can help us... again thru this u will be able to share resources...
Anyways...these are ideas... i will let ur team think abt it.. and i would be more than happy to advise further and help in anyway possible thru what i know and who i know...
